A very scarce great war(1914-18) balloon observers basket. The basket is in very good condition. Not many of them survive. This one has a opening door to the front, its original iron rope hooks and a solid oak floor. There are many groups of combatants who could claim to be the unsung heroes of the first world war. One group with a particular strong claim are those men who operated balloons. Not for them the glamor of flying Sopwith camels but they had to face the dangers of being suspended several thousand feet in the air with nothing more than a wicker basket.
